- Two (2) Academic or Professional Recommendation
One of your recommendations MUST be from a current or previous science teacher that knows you well. The other recommendation can be from another teacher, counselor, club advisor, coach, etc. You will provide their official emails in the application form and we will contact them for the recommendations.
- Signed Applicant and Parent/Guardian
You and your parents/legal guardians must sign and upload the forms to your online application. The forms can be found in the online application.
The application process consists of three phases:
The review committee anonymously reads every applicant’s letter of interest. You are scored in your mechanics, ability to follow directions, and (most importantly) in your passion for science and desire to do research. The top half scores move to the second phase.
The entire application packet is reviewed. You are given a score based on your recommendations, grades, and other considerations. The top 60 scores are then invited to interview.
In the interview applicants discuss their qualifications and interests in research. Each interviewee is given a score. The top 48 scores are invited to participate in the KEYS Research Internship.
If you have questions about the application process please contact Kelle Hyland, Outreach Program Coodinator, at 520-626-6192.
Use this Application Checklist to help you keep track of all the required documents! Save it, print it, and use it for your own records (The checklist is a pdf file, Microsoft Word works best to open the file).
